Do you like to travel? Where do you like to go? Do you travel to the same resort? Do you like cruises? Or do you prefer visiting different countries? Unfortunately since I have no money and two very old pets I can’t bear to leave behind, I can’t travel at the moment. This is very difficult for me because I love to travel. I enjoy seeing new things, smelling new smells, hearing new sounds and experiencing new experiences. When I am able to travel again and it’s March or April, I plan to visit South Africa. There are many reasons for my interest in that country, the main one being two very special friends reside there. While living in Israel in the 80s, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in English Literature. While studying there, I met a wonderful woman named Dorit. We became great friends. But after we completed our degrees, she married a really nice South African guy and moved there. For many years, I tried to find Dorit. When I met someone from South Africa, I would ask them to look for her but no success. Then one Christmas day 3 years ago, I received an email from her asking if I remembered her. She had googled me and found my website and email address. I wrote back right away and told her how I had been looking for her and I was so glad to connect again. So, after 30 years, Dorit and I are friends again. We keep in touch through Skype. She has invited me to visit them and I would love to, but I need at least $7,000 for that trip. If I’m going that far (it’s a 20 hour flight), I’ll stay for at least a month so that I can see everything because I’m only going there once. My plan is to fly into Cape Town and spend a few days there. Then I’ll fly to Johannesburg and spend a couple of weeks just following Dorit around. I’ll bring my laptop so I can work when she’s busy but I just want to hang out with her. That’s the best way to enjoy a visit. Of course, if I go to Africa, I’m going on safari. I’ve always wanted to do that because I love animals and nature. I can’t wait to see all the animals in their natural habitat and not in a zoo. I plan to take as many pictures as possible. But going on safari is very expensive. My friends have been and enjoyed it immensely so I’ll probably get a recommendation from them. I’m also fascinated by South Africa. How do the people really live there and what it’s like. I can’t imagine any reason to want to live in a country with so much violence and prejudice. My friends live in a gated community and describe the possible dangers. I look forward to experiencing their lives if even for a few days. But I love travelling to new places and encountering new ways of life. Where do you want to go? Have fun, Patty
